Tips to Surviving a Long Flight in Coach

offsite fll airport parking window seatFlying in coach can be tough, especially on a long flight. Think cross-country or international. But to be honest, for us any flight over 2 and ½ hours feels long when you’re in coach. Luckily you don’t have to spend all of your offsite FLL Airport parking savings on upgrading your flight. We have a few tried and true techniques that will help you to survive your next long flight in coach.

Selecting a Seat

This may not seem like a big deal, but it is. It’s just as important as booking your offsite FLL Airport parking in advance. You want to know when you arrive that your place is reserved. If you don’t select a seat when you book your ticket you may get stuck in the back of the plane near the lavatories. You will want to try to be as close to the front of the plane as possible or at least in the middle. When it comes to picking an aisle, middle, or window seat you might be tempted to save the money and pick the middle. On a short flight, that’s not a problem, but for a long flight you’ll have to disturb someone every time you want to get up. If you plan on doing a lot of stretching, go for an aisle seat. Just remember that it’ll be hard to get a good nap in if your seatmates get up a lot. A window seat is great if you do want to hunker down and take a nap.

Snacks and Drinks

On a long flight you don’t want your hunger to be at the mercy of the flight attendants. This is why we will always encourage you to pack your own. Choose some protein rich options like cheese, protein bars, or trail mix. Be sure to stay hydrated as well as flights will dehydrate you faster than you think. Take an empty water bottle through security and fill up before you board.

Boredom can make your flight feel even longer! Make sure you have a few entertainment options handy. Download shows and movies in advance with apps like Prime Video and Netflix so you don’t have to pay for in-flight Wi-Fi. And bring an actual book, magazine, or puzzle book with you in case your battery dies or you want to mix it up.

Comfort is Key

Staying comfortable is the most important thing you can do to make your long flight in coach bearable. Skip the tight jeans and wear something breathable. If it’s a really long flight consider wearing a pair of compression socks to keep the blood flowing. Bring a blanket with you in case you get cold and an eye mask if you want to catch some zzz’s. Lotion and lip balm can also be lifesavers on a long flight, just make sure the lotion doesn’t have an overpowering scent. You don’t want to be that person.
