Staying healthy while traveling is not always easy. For one thing, you’re surrounded by people in airports and airplanes. For another, the holiday season coincides with cold and flu season. But don’t get discouraged. There are plenty of things you can do. Here are our tips for staying healthy while traveling.

Stay Hydrated
It’s really easy to get dehydrated when you travel especially when you fly. Drink plenty of water before and during your flight. Avoid drinks that will dehydrate you like coffee and alcohol. Once you arrive at your destination, keep drinking water. Not only will it help keep you healthy, it’ll help you beat jet lag.
Wash, Wash, Wash
You’re going to be coming in contact with all sorts of germs. The best thing you can do is keep clean. The first thing you should do when you find your seat in the airplane is to sanitize the arm rests and the tray table with wipes. Wash your hands constantly and have hand sanitizer in case you can’t get to a washroom. Oral hygiene is also key in staying healthy while you travel. Brush and floss often and use mouthwash.
Eat Well
Don’t forget to eat nutritiously while you travel. It can be hard when the food options at the airport leave a lot to be desired. Search for fresh fruits and veggies for snacks or pack some protein bars. When you’re at your destination enjoy the local cuisine, but make sure you’re getting all of the nutrients you need.
Get Rest
When you’re exhausted you’re more susceptible to illness. Sleeping well and listening to your body’ cues will help keep you healthy. Take naps if you’re feeling run down or sleep in. You know what you need. Don’t get caught up in having to see or do everything at the cost of your health.
