Traveling during the holidays can be one of the most stressful times of the year. From the crowds and increase in prices to delays and packing, it can become overwhelming. But, there’s actually a lot you can do in advance to avoid a lot of the added stress. We want to make sure you know all of our favorite tips and tricks to traveling during the holidays.

Check the Cancellation Policy
When you’re searching for your hotel or airline tickets, it’s hard to know if you have the best price. Should you book now because they’ll keep going up? Should you wait to book in case there’s a sale? It can be extremely stressful trying to ensure you’re getting the best price possible. One of the ways to eliminate that stress is by booking your reservations with hotels and airlines that offer a generous cancellation policy. This way you can feel confident booking in advance. You will want to make sure that you read the cancellation policy completely and set a reminder on your phone to alert you a couple of days before the penalty free cancellation date.
Try Another Airport
We all have our home airports. It’s the one we always fly out from and can tell you where to find the cleanest bathrooms, we know what food is in what terminal, and how long security takes during different times of the day. While it’s perfectly fine to have a home airport, you should be open to flying out of alternative airports, especially during the holidays. If you’re in an area like South Florida you’re close to both Miami International Airport and Fort Lauderdale International Airport. Check the flights from both to get the cheapest airfare. It also works when you’re picking the destination airport. Flying to New York City? Check out JFK, LaGuardia, and Newark airports. Checking all of the various routes may take a little longer, but the savings are worth it.
Book Offsite FLL Airport Economy Parking
This is a tip you should be using all year round no matter what airport you’re flying from. When you book offsite FLL Airport economy parking you’ll get the most savings and eliminate a ton of unnecessary stress. Parking at major airports can be extremely stressful, not to mention expensive. These airport parking lots fill up quickly during the holidays. And unfortunately, you aren’t able to book in advance. Your only recourse is to get to the airport early and try to find a spot. But what will you do if you drive to the airport only to be met with a huge sign saying that the lot is full? That’s extremely common in the days leading up to Thanksgiving and Christmas. Avoid that situation completely by booking your airport parking in advance. We can’t stress that enough. Where can you book airport parking? At offsite lots, but don’t wait too long to make your reservation. Offsite FLL Airport economy parking will sell out during the holidays as well. We recommend booking your parking as soon as you book your flight. This way you know you’ll have a parking spot for your car and a complimentary ride to and from the airport.
Don’t Wrap Gifts
Gift giving is a huge part of the holiday season and when you fly with gifts you generally want to keep them with you in your personal item or carryon bag. Just remember to bring them unwrapped. Airport security can ask you to unwrap them, which means you’ll be stuck in security even longer. Plus wrapping paper and bows can easily become damaged during travel. We like packing gift bags to use at our destination. They’re quick and easy to use while still being very festive. You can also consider buying your gifts online and having them gift wrapped and shipped to your destination.
Remember That Delays Happen
Delays are bound to happen during the holidays because of weather and the crowds. Have you seen how long it takes for a full plane to get boarded? Prepare for that in advance so if it does occur, you’re ready. This is especially important if you’re flying with children. Pack a bag with snacks and toys/activities to keep your kids entertained. Download movies in advance onto your phone from Amazon Video or Netflix and pack your charger in your personal bag. If you can, book a direct flight so that a delay won’t interfere with a connecting flight.
