If your resolution is to travel more in 2020, then we have the list for you. These are the top tourist attractions that you can’t miss. While they may be getting more popular with travel enthusiasts, they’re worth it.
The Blue City – Chefchaouen, Morocco

There’s something magical in The Blue City. It could be the Rif Mountains, the vibrant blue hues that surround you, or the history that you can feel in this city whose roots go back over 500 years. The blue colors serve a religious purpose. The Jewish faith believes that the color reminds us of God’s power. Chefcauoen’s indigenous Berber people have always welcome those of Jewish and Christian faiths.
Vatican City
Yes, technically a whole country has made our list of the top tourist attractions in the world. The Vatican became an independent city-state in 1929. Start a the Vatican Museums where you’ll see incredible works including statues from ancient Rome and more “modern” Renaissance paintings. Next take in the breathtaking ceiling in the Sistine Chapel. Its small size might surprise you, but its significance can be felt. And St. Peter’s Basilica? You have to see it to believe it. It’s scale is impressive and there’s priceless artwork everywhere.
If you have time it’s worth it to pay a little extra to climb up to the dome. It’s the highest vantage point in Rome as no other buildings are allowed to be taller than St. Peter’s dome. Keep in mind that there are a lot of steps, even if you take the elevator. And as everyone should know, bare arms and legs are not allowed at this religious site. It’s easy to comply if you go during winter.
Palace of Versailles – France
Nothing compares with the opulence at the Palace of Versailles. From 1682 to 1789 it was home to the royal court. Getting to Versailles is easy. It’s one-hour train ride from Paris. The difficulty will be the crowds. The majority of them will be queued up to visit the Hall of Mirrors or Galerie des Glaces. 17 mirrors on one side of the 240-foot long room are directly opposite 17 matching windows on the other side. While it’s easy to get mesmerized by the mirrors and windows, don’t forget to look up. The fresco and chandeliers complete this over the top parlor. After visiting the palace, escape some of the crowd by exploring the Gardens of Versailles. Here is where you’ll find the Grand Trianon.
Chichén Itzá – Yucatan, Mexico

Once you visit Chichén Itzá there’s no question why it’s one of the new 7 Wonders of the World. It’s an ancient sacred site for the Mayans that date’s back 1,000 years. The most well known structure is the El Castillo pyramid. It’s the first thing you’ll see. Don’t be surprised to find tourists clapping in front of its steps, you’ll be doing the same soon enough. But be prepared because Chichén Itzá is massive. Here’s where comfortable walking shoes are a must! Among the ruins you’ll find a sacrificial cenote, the Wall of the Skulls, a ball court, and more. Some of the buildings are remarkably well preserved. A knowledgable guide is well worth it here. And if you can visit during the spring or fall equinox you’re in for a special treat at El Castillo.
