Deciding what to pack for a summer vacation can be fun, but tricky. It’s easy to over pack and still forget the essentials you’ll want in your beach bag. The last thing you want is to get your toes in the sand only to realize that you forgot sunscreen! Here are our top must haves you’ll want to be sure you pack for your summer vacation beach bag.
The Beach Bag
This may seem like a no-brainer, but a lot of people forget to pack a bag that’s beach appropriate. You’ll want one that’s roomy without being bulky. You don’t want it to take up too much space. Luggage space is at a premium when you pack for a summer vacation. The beach bag you pick should also be easily cleaned. It’s going to get dirty. Another important thing to remember when you pick a beach bag is to find one that has comfortable straps. You may have a bit of a trek to get to the perfect spot on the beach and you don’t want straps cutting into your shoulder the whole time.
Sun Protection
We can’t stress this enough and it’s more than just sunscreen, which you definitely have to bring. Sun protection also includes an SPF lip balm (trust us, you’ll be happy you brought this), an SPF cover up, and a hat. When you are selecting a sunscreen be sure to get a high enough SPF and reapply often. For an SPF lip balm, try to find one that is at least 15 SPF or higher.
Towel
You’ll definitely need a towel for a day at the beach. A Turkish cotton towel is less bulky than a traditional beach towel leaving more room in your bag for other essentials.
Water Bottle
It’s important to stay hydrated when you’re out in the sun. Pick up a refillable bottle that will keep your water cold. We like the Yeti and the Coldest One.
Wristlet
You may find yourself wanting to run up to a snack stand. Pack a little wristlet in your beach bag with your ID, some cash, and a card. It’s easy to take this without packing everything up and taking it with you.
Portable Battery
Playing tunes on your phone and taking Instagram worthy photos can drain your battery. Bring a small portable one with you to keep the music going all day. Choose one that’s not too heavy, but still carries a good charge.
Speakers
To keep the party going, we like packing a high quality, portable, Bluetooth speaker. It adds a lot of fun to a beach day and it doesn’t take up much room. Bring the charger with you in case you need to recharge on your portable battery. Here’s one of our favorites.
Snacks
Having fun in the sun and water can really build up an appetite. Packing some easy snacks is a must. Think small bags of nuts, granola, or cheese sticks. You can also pack chips or pretzels to share.
