Fort Lauderdale International Airport Update

On Wednesday, July 5, 2017, the FLL Airport nearly doubled their international gates with their latest expansion. This was much needed as the airport has seen double-digit growth for their international flights over the past three years. This increase is not projected to stop anytime soon. Currently the airport has flights to 50 different cities in 30 countries. Learn more about the Fort Lauderdale International Airport expansion and see how this can affect your travel plans.

The new Concourse A at Terminal 1 is part of an estimated $333 million expansion project at FLL Airport. It takes the airport’s international gates from six to 11. In addition to the new gates, Concourse A has a Customs and Border Protection inspection station, more restaurants, and new shops. This concourse links Southwest’s Concourses B and C. Southwest Airlines has already announced that FLL will be their largest international gateway. However, the opening of Concourse A is just the beginning of the expansions at the airport.
Construction on Terminal 4 has reached the halfway point. It will add more international arrival gates. This will not only bring a boom to the airport, but to the city of Fort Lauderdale as well. The Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention & Visitors Bureau is already working to tap into the new possibilities. By the end of 2018, the airport will have 17 international gates. The addition of more international gates gives travelers more options. For many residents making the trip to Miami International Airport is not a welcome part of their trip. By having new flights out of Ft. Lauderdale they are able to fly out of their home airport.
